The Agility Shift

After attending the October 2015 Chicago SHRM full-day conference, I spent some time reflecting about one of the topics in particular, “agility”. One of my favorite speakers, Dr. Pamela Meyer, spoke about the importance of organizations and leaders becoming more agile.

When she spoke about agile leadership & teams (communication, collaboration and coordination) and agile organizations (human system of interactions) it reminded me of an article I wrote for posted on May 9, 2014.

In “Can You Course Correct in Less Than Two Minutes?“, I talk about how asking the right questions can free you up to implement changes and corrections in a matter of minutes. It is the easiest way to shift from “this should be working” to “why it isn’t working.”

Identifying and capturing opportunities in real time is the key and asking questions that get to the root cause that is preventing progress is critical.

Of course, this is not fun at times with many different opinions and personalities on the team, but this method is essential to staying in front of your competition.
